Anibal Alonzo Living situation

HOUSING SITUATION
They rent their one-room home for about $83 US per month. The house is made of cement block with a tin roof and a tile floor.
ELECTRICITY
They have electricity connected.

WATER
They have running water.

BATHROOM
They have a flushing toilet and a shower.
STOVE
They have a gas stove.

PILA
They do not have a pila. They do their washing in a public pila.
pila is a large, usually outdoor sink made either of cement or plastic that is essential to Guatemalan life. In this sink, they wash clothing and dishes and store water, and for families without a shower, it is used for bucket baths.

TABLES AND CHAIRS
They have one table and five chairs.

CLOTHING STORAGE
They have one wardrobe.

BEDS
They have two beds.
WATER FILTER
They do not have a water filter. The family would like to have a 10-year water filter if possible.
The tap water in Guatemala is not potable. Drinking it can lead to parasites and disease.

CHICKENS
They do not have any chickens, but have room for egg-laying hens, if possible.
These can help to provide the family with a supplemental income and source of protein.

FAMILY NEEDS
The family´s most urgent need is for food. They also need:
  • help getting a house of their own
  • a water filter
  • pila
